TWINLESS TWIN SUPPORT GROUP INTERNATIONAL
Welcome to a unique support group that helps twinless twins "heal by helping" others!
Mission Statement: Our organization exists to provide a safe and compassionate community for twinless twins to experience healing and understanding. We provide support for twins and other multiples who have lost their twin due to death or estrangement at any age.
Twinless Twins Support Group, International (TTSGI) is a 501©3 nonprofit organization founded by Dr. Raymond W. Brandt, an identical twinless twin. His twin, Robert, was accidentally electrocuted in 1949 at 20 years of age. As Dr. Brandt struggled with the pain of separation he came to realize that “once a twin always a twin”. Then as he reached out to other twinless twins, he realized that his own healing occurred. He coined the phase “Healing by helping others”. Now, TTSG reaches out to all twins everywhere.
Twin loss is uniquely different from the loss of other family or friends. It can only be experienced by the surviving twin. The uniqueness is evident in that:
• newly Twinless no longer know who they are, wondering, “Am I still a twin?”
• the surviving twin may have feelings of guilt that he or she lives while the twin has gone
• the twinless twin may develop an aimless attitude, as well as a feeling of aloneness. He or she wonders how to make it through life without his or her twin
• twinless twins are at a higher risk for reckless and /or suicidal behavior
• new “normal” existence does not reinforce the twinship nor offer many qualified support resources
For these very reasons, the Twinless Twin Organization exists. We are supported by annual membership dues, conference fees, and individual donations.
If you are not a twinless twin, but a family member struggling with how to support a surviving twin or a professional treating or counseling a surviving twin, please contact us for additional information.
